드래곤시티 호텔 르시엘(LE CIEL) 31 가장 찬란한 순간을 위한 무대
인생에는 다시 오지 않을, 유독 눈부신 한 시절이 있다.
'화양연화(花樣年華)'는 그 시절을 꽃에 비유한 영화의 제목이기도 하다.
‘인생에서 가장 아름답고 행복한 순간', 꽃처럼 피어나는 가장 찬란한 나날. 르시엘(LE CIEL)은 바로 그 순간을 담아내기 위한 배경의 장소이다.
르시엘(LE CIEL)은 용산 드래곤시티 호텔 31~32층에 자리했던 F&B 시설을 연회 및 컨벤션을 위한 공간으로 전환한 리노베이션 프로젝트다. 용산이라는 입지와 호텔의 위상에 걸맞은 컨벤션 시설을 계획하는 과정에서 가장 중요하게 다룬 것은 두 가지, 명확한 교유의 장소성을 확보하는 일과 공간의 쓸모에 적합한 볼륨을 찾아내는 일이었다. 애초 다른 목적으로 설계된 공간이 지닌 한계를 인지하고, 이를 연회의 공간으로서 온전히 작동시킬 해결책을 찾는 것이 프로젝트의 핵심 과제였다. 연회공간의 설계를 논할 때 흔히 공간의 규모와 볼륨감의 조성이 우선시 고려되지만, 이 프로젝트는 애초 그러한 목적으로 계획된 장소가 아니기에 공간의 한계를 극복하는 발상이 필요했다. 기본적인 공간 위계를 재 정의하는 동시에, 장소가 지닌 고유한 매력을 발견해 디자인으로 풀어내는 작업이 더욱 중요했다.
무엇보다 한강의 압도적인 전경과 남산의 풍치를 파노라마로 조망할 수 있다는 점에 매료됐다. 풍경의 흐름에 순응하는 공간 배치를 통해 장소의 매력을 극대화하는 프로그램을 계획했다. 행사의 중심이 되는 무대를 기준으로 좌우 대칭 구조를 따르는 통상적인 틀에서 벗어나, 좌우로 펼쳐진 경치를 만끽하며 연회할 수 있도록 홀의 배치를 우선했다.
연회장에서 펼쳐지는 행사는 저마다 특별한 순간의 경험이다. 로맨틱한 결혼식부터 기업 세미나, 브랜드 런칭쇼 등, 르씨엘에서 펼쳐질 저마다의 빛나는 순간을 담아낼 수 있는 특별함의 무대이기를 지향했다.
결혼식의 서약, 세미나의 발표, 브랜드가 처음 세상에 얼굴을 내미는 순간—르시엘에서 펼쳐질 하루하루는 저마다의 인생에서 가장 빛나는 장면이 될 것이다. 그 순간들을 위한 배경으로, 공간은 온전히 '화양연화'의 서사를 담아냈다 꽃잎이 피어나듯 부드럽게 흘러내리는 곡면과 오가닉한 셰이프는 규칙에서 벗어난 편안함을 만들어내고, 동선을 따라 나부끼는 꽃비 팬던트는 마치 바람에 흩날리는 꽃잎처럼 공간 사이사이를 채운다. 화려한 패턴의 마감재와 오브제 하나하나에도 꽃의 수려함을 새겨, 지나는 걸음마다 서사의 한 장면과 마주치도록 계획했다.
이 모든 디테일은 장식이 아니라 이야기다. 전이되는 공간마다 담긴 모티브들은 결국 하나의 흐름으로 이어져, 이곳을 거쳐 가는 모든 이의 하루를 인생에서 가장 찬란한 한 페이지로 완성한다. 여러 제약 속에서 그 이야기를 짓는 일은 쉽지 않았지만, 그래서 더욱 보람 있는 여정이었다. 르시엘에서 펼쳐질 무수한 장면들이, 이 공간을 스쳐 간 모두의 삶 속에서 가장 화려하게 빛나는 순간으로 오래도록 기억되기를 바란다.

The Stage for Hwayang-yeonhwa: Blossoming into Life's Most Brilliant Moment
There is a singular, blindingly radiant season in life that never returns. “Hwayang-yeonhwa” (花樣年華)—meaning the most beautiful and blissful moments of life—is a cinematic title comparing that golden era to blooming flowers. LE CIEL is a space designed precisely to capture that fleeting summit of existence.
LE CIEL is a renovation project that transformed a former F&B facility on the 31st and 32nd floors of the Seoul Dragon City Hotel into a premier venue for banquets and conventions. In planning convention facilities befitting the stature of Yongsan and the hotel's prestige, two core imperatives guided our design: securing a distinct sense of place through spatial identity and discovering a spatial volume tailored to its new utility. Recognizing the inherent limitations of a space originally engineered for an entirely different purpose, and engineering a seamless solution to operate it flawlessly as a banquet hall, formed the foundational challenge of this project. While banquet design typically prioritizes spatial scale and volumetric presence, overcoming structural constraints here demanded a creative paradigm shift. More critical than simply redefining the basic spatial hierarchy was uncovering the intrinsic charm of the location and translating it into architectural design.
Above all, we were captivated by the panoramic vistas—the sweeping expanse of the Han River paired with the scenic elegance of Namsan. We devised a programmatic layout that maximizes this unique spatial asset by aligning with the natural rhythm of the scenery. Breaking away from conventional symmetric frameworks anchored strictly to a central stage, we prioritized hall layouts designed to let guests dine and celebrate while fully absorbing the sprawling external views.
Every event hosted in a banquet hall represents a singular, extraordinary experience. From romantic weddings to corporate seminars and brand launch galas, LE CIEL aspires to serve as an extraordinary stage capable of framing each distinct, luminous moment destined to unfold within its walls.
The vows of a wedding, the key announcements of a seminar, a brand’s inaugural introduction to the world—each day unfolding at LE CIEL will script a pinnacle chapter in someone’s life. As a backdrop for these unforgettable milestones, the interior entirely embodies the narrative of “Hwayang-yeonhwa.” Softly cascading curved surfaces and organic shapes, reminiscent of unspooling flower petals, break away from rigid geometry to establish a sense of serene ease. Flowing seamlessly along circulation paths, falling-petal pendants drift like wind-scattered blossoms across the spatial intervals. Exquisite patterned finishes and hand-selected objects capture the delicate elegance of floral forms, ensuring every passing step encounters a living scene from a grand narrative.
All of these meticulous details are not merely decorations; they are stories. The motifs embedded in every transitional threshold ultimately converge into a single, cohesive current, completing a page of luminous brilliance for every individual passing through. Weaving this narrative amid various constraints was no small feat, which makes the journey all the more rewarding. It is our sincerest hope that the countless scenes unfurling at LE CIEL will endure long in the memories of all who grace this space, shining as the most magnificent chapter of their lives.
